RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Nicole Davis scored 21 of her game-high 23 points in the second half for California Baptist University in a 70-58 loss to No. 14 Westmont.
Davis notched her eighth 20-point game of the year as the Lancers (14-10, 6-8 GSAC) dropped their second straight conference game.
Davis was the only Lancers in double figures as Heather Couzens and Brianna Estell were the closest scorers with eight. Westmont was led by Alisha Heglund who scored 13 while Amber Stevens had 12 and Jessica Case had 11.
Westmont jumped out quickly on the Lancers with a 12-2 lead in the first four minutes of the game. The Warriors then led 19-9 with 11:50 left in the half before they used a 15-5 run to take their largest lead of the half at 34-14. Nikki Johnson hit a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 34-16 at intermission.
The Lancers were just 5-for-30 from the field in the first half, with no Lancer scoring more than four points.
CBU opened the second half with an 8-2 run to cut to 36-24, but the Warriors answered with a 15-7 run to go up 51-31. The closest the Lancers came was the final score at 70-58.
The Lancers hit just 31.3 percent from the field, 15.4 percent from 3-point range and 57.1 percent from the charity stripe.
California Baptist now hits the road for a Saturday contest at Concordia.
