RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Kendra Morris tied a career-high with six 3-pointers and was just a point short of tying a career-high with 27 points scored in an 86-79 loss to No. 22 Biola. The senior guard was 8-for-15 from the field and 6-for-10 from beyond the arc.
The Lancers (10-9, 3-6 GSAC) hit 43.3 percent (26-60) from the field and 43.5 percent from downtown (10-23), but struggled with the Eagles' (11-6, 7-2) 1-2 combo of Jessilyn Conicelli and Christina Barclay. Conicelli scored a team-high 23 points, going 10-for-13 from the field and Barclay, who stands at 6-4, owned the paint with 18 points and seven boards. She also didn't miss from the line, hitting all six attempts.
The Eagles doubled the Lancers' total in the paint, 36-18, making all the difference in the game. Megan Bradford tied a career-high with 21 points and pulled down five boards while Heather Couzens scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds. Bryana Williams also added seven boards.
The Lancers led twice early, but Biola started to gain some distance, jumping out to a 19-11 lead with 13:31 left. Later CBU trailed 30-23, when Couzens and Morris drained consecutive 3-pointers to bring CBU within one at 30-29. Couzens then regained the lead for the Lancers with a lay up and a Bradford free throw made it 32-30 in favor of CBU. The Eagles tied it at 32, but the Lancers answered with an 8-2 run, capped by a Morris trey, to take 40-34 lead with 4:17 left in the half. CBU didn't trail again in the first half and took a 46-43 lead into intermission.
The Eagles opened the second half with an 18-9 run to take a 64-52, but Morris completed a 4-point play with a trey and a free throw to cut it to 64-56. Bradford then sank a layup after an Elisha Taylor steal and then drained a pair of free throws to close the gap to 64-60. Couzens made it 64-62 with a layup before Conicelli stopped the 10-point run by CBU with a free-throw. The Lancers though hit four straight free throws to complete a 14-1 run and take their first lead of the second half at 66-65 with 7:54 to play.
The lead lasted just 18 seconds when Charrise Reece hit a three to give the Eagles a 68-66 lead and controlled the game from that point on.
