PHOENIX, Ariz. --- The 2011 All-Pacific West Conference Men's Soccer Team was announced Wednesday by the conference office, and conference champion California Baptist University had six players named to it.
Osvaldo Bastida and Joey Pacheco were named to the first team. Pacheco was named Goalkeeper of the Year.
The All-PacWest Team was selected by the head coaches in the conference and includes a first team, second team and those receiving honorable mention.
Bastida put together the best season of his four-year career with a career-best 11 goals. He was fourth in the conference in goals and points (25). Heading into this week's National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) West Regional Tournament, Bastida is fifth in program history with 26 career goals.
Pacheco was second in the PacWest with a 0.83 goals against average and third with five shutouts.
Michael Salazar, who was named Freshman of the Year, was named to the second team, and he was joined by Marc Hope, Alex Anderson and Willie Rupert.
Salazar was fifth in the PacWest with nine goals in his first collegiate season, and he was also fifth with 23 points and sixth with five assists. Hope was fourth in the conference with six assists and also scored four times, while Anderson was tied for sixth with five assists. He had three goals.
Meanwhile, Rupert, who has started every single one of the Lancers' games the past four years, spearheaded a Lancer defense that was one of the best in the PacWest, allowing just 15 goals (0.82 goals against average) and posting seven shutouts. Rupert also scored three goals, all on penalty kicks, and had two assists.
Tyler Aagard received honorable mention.
The Lancers (13-5 overall) won the PacWest title with a 3-1 victory over Dixie State on the final day of the regular season. They finished their first season in the conference at 10-2 with 30 points. They begin the NCCAA West Regional Thursday at 1 p.m. hosting Trinity Lutheran.
