POMONA, Calif. --- California Baptist University kept its hot streak going as it swept through the opening day of the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament with a pair of wins.
CBU took down yet another ranked opponent, defeating No. 18 Redlands, 12-3, after already having grabbed a win against Fordham, 11-10. The Lancers have now won six in a row.
The Lancers had to hold on late against Fordham after grabbing a 4-0 lead early. The Rams came back to even the game at 7-7 early in the fourth.
The teams would trade scores until Trevor Rowland and Tucker Angelo scored back-to-back goals to give the Lancers an 11-9 advantage with 2:45 to play. Fordham managed one more goal at the 1:45 mark, but couldn't strike again.
David Ring posted four goals in the contest to lead the Lancers.
In the late game, the Lancers gave up the opening goal and then held Redlands scoreless for the next 18:14, scoring 10 straight goals in the process to take a 10-1 lead.
Ten different players notched goals for the Lancers in the blowout victory and Joseph Moorman posted 20 saves. Moorman's total was the second-highest single-game save total in CBU history, just two short of assistant coach Jon Miller's 22 saves back in 2007.
CBU's nine-goal win was its most lopsided victory of the year.
The pair of wins moves CBU to 9-6 on the year. Fordham falls to 10-6 overall and Redlands drops to 9-9.
