PROVO, UT. -- California Baptist University went into BYU looking to break up history, but there is a reason why the seventh-ranked Cougars had a program-best 31-match winning streak going into Saturday's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.
After taking the first set off BYU Friday, CBU looked to bounce back from a four-set loss with a victory Saturday. The Lancers were held back by the eighth top-11 ranked team they have seen this season in a 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 loss. They move to 3-9, 1-8 in the MPSF this season, while the Cougars improve to 8-2, 7-1.
Enrique de Diego Garcia led CBU's offense with 10 kills and no errors on 21 attempts – a personal-career high. The freshman middle blocker had a .476 attack percentage and two blocks on the night.
Rohit Paul had nine kills and an ace for CBU, while Zachary Melcher ended up with 30 assists, five digs and two blocks.
The Lancers return home to face sixth-ranked Hawaii on Wednesday and Friday, with both matches set for a 7 p.m. start in the Van Dyne Gym.
