MALIBU, Calif. – Big expectations await Alena Rumiantceva in her senior season with California Baptist University. The breaststroke specialist showed she's ready to continue to live up to them against an NCAA Division I field at the Malibu Invite on Saturday.
Rumiantceva delivered two wins and a runner-up performance in the three breaststroke events at Pepperdine. The Lancers secured two other victories, as well, to conclude their second events of the 2016-17 season, which included D-I Bakersfield as well as the Waves.
There was clear depth in the breaststroke events, with Rumiantceva and Melody Coleman leading the charge. Rumiantceva won the 100 and 200-yard breaststrokes with times of one minute, 5.11 seconds and 2:21.40, respectively. Coleman took third and sixth in the 100 (1:07.56) and 200 (2:27.56), while Alex Wolf finished third in the 100 breast (2:25.85).
Rumiantceva ended her day with a runner-up performance in the 50 breast (30.37), but Courtney Chacon and Christie Halverson added individual victories for CBU on day two of the Malibu Invitational.
