RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist University filled two new vacancies in the athletic department this week, with the hiring of directors Joey Logan and Jim Walters. Both are familiar faces to CBU.
Logan reunites with the Lancers as the department's first-ever Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations after spending the last two years at San Francisco State. Walters transitions between CBU departments, leaving the Director of Public Safety position he held for more than a decade to become Director of Facilities at the new CBU Events Center.
For the past two years, Logan served as San Francisco State's Associate Athletic Director for Compliance. Beyond the usual compliance role, he was responsible for overseeing the athletic department's scholarship budget and oversaw ticket operations for athletic events.
"I am blessed to be able to come back to CBU, a place my family and I consider home, and extremely honored to be working for a university and athletics department committed to the Great Commission and Christ-honoring excellence," Logan said.
Before moving to San Francisco, Logan worked at CBU in two different ways. He started out as a compliance intern from May 2010 to July 2011 and was then hired as an Academic Coordinator for Athletics and NCAA Eligibility. He was in charge of NCAA academic certification and monitoring for all 470 student-athletes and 20 sports programs.
Logan earned his undergraduate degree in political science from CBU in 2010, graduating with magna cum laude honors and was in the top-10 percent of his class.
"I would like to sincerely thank President Dr. Ronald L. Ellis, Vice President Kent Dacus and Director of Athletics Dr. Micah Parker for this tremendous opportunity. I look forward to working alongside an outstanding team of coaches and staff," Logan said.
Walters came to CBU after a 32-year career with the Riverside Police Department. He served as the Lancers' Director of Public Safety for more than a decade and was ready for a new challenge.
"After more than 40 years of working to help provide a safe environment for people, I decided I was ready to do something completely different," Walters said. "I have been so very blessed to work at CBU the past 11 years but, most importantly, with the great people in Public Safety."
Walters will now oversee coordination of day-to-day activities and maintenance of the CBU Events Center. In that role, Walters will serve as a main point of contact for all internal and external users of the facility and work collaboratively in the planning and organizing of campus event activities held in the Events Center.
