Longfellow Wins Five Events in Season Opener

LA MIRADA, Calif. – Several standout performances led California Baptist University to a dominant victory at the PCSC Pentathlon, its season opener at the La Mirada Splash Aquatics Center on Saturday.
CBU totaled 376.5 points to win the six-team event by a 260.5 margin. Emily Longfellow won a total of four events, while Mackenzie Mergel and Emily Dunkerson had two victories of their own.
Longfellow could not be beat on the day, winning the 100-yard butterfly in 58.31 seconds, the 100 backstroke in 57.74, 100 breast in 1:08.30 and 200 individual medley in 2:09.66.
Mergel won both the 200 and 500 freestyles in 1:54.84 and 5:04.31. Rebecca Oviedo was a top-three finisher in both events, taking second in 200 free (1:54.89) and third in the 500 free (5:07.72). Buse Topcu finished second in the 500 free (5:07.65).
Emily Dunkerson won both boards, with 247.85 points at 1-meter and 255.75 on the 3-meter board. Savannah Uhlir took second in the 3-meter board (236.40), as well.
There were three more victories for the Lancers. Rita Smirnova and Isabella Rhodes won the 25 (11.36) and 50 free (24.30), respectively, while Hannah Parson won the 50 back (27.28) just in front of Andrea Laliena (27.57).
Longfellow won the long IM pentathlon (a 100 of each stroke with a 200 IM) with a total time of 6:08.70. Mergel was victorious in the freestyle pentathlon (25, 50, 100, 200 and 500 free) in 8:31.33, while Oviedo took second (8:36.01).
