CBU's Comeback Stopped Short

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Another well-rounded effort nearly led California Baptist University to a comeback win on the road at Northern Arizona on Saturday night.
Britney Thomas logged her third double-double in four opportunities this season, while Tiena Afu, Ane Olaeta and Georgia Dale also scored in the double digits of a 91-88 loss to NAU in the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome. The Lancers move to 1-3 this season, while Northern Arizona improves to 3-1.
There is a six-day break before CBU's next game, as it will travel to the SDSU Thanksgiving Classic next weekend. The Lancers face host San Diego State Friday and then Brigham Young on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 5 p.m. tip-offs.
Thomas compiled 23 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals over 29 minutes for CBU. Afu finished up with 19 points, five rebounds and two assists, while Olaeta added 14 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Dale's activity led to 10 points, six assists and six rebounds for herself. Emma Meriggioli's presence was felt all over, as well, as she chipped in six points, five steals and five assists.
Saturday's first half was tightly contested, but the Lancers took a 42-41 lead into halftime thanks to 6-of-12 shooting from three. NAU went on to take the largest lead of the game, 62-52, with 4:23 left in the third quarter.
The Lancers cut their deficit all the way down to one, 66-65, with 1:20 left in the third quarter, thanks to five points from Thomas and four from Afu. The Lumberjacks never gave up the lead, though, even after a 6-0 run at the end of the game provided by buckets from Thomas, Olaeta and Dale.
