FRESNO, Calif. – Less than 48 hours after its last game, No. 20-ranked California Baptist University hit the floor again and grabbed an 82-59 road victory at Fresno Pacific.
The Lancers won their eighth-straight game to improve to 22-4 on the year, 15-3 in the PacWest. The Sunbirds drop to 5-21 overall, 3-15 in conference.
As a team, CBU shot 46.3-percent from the floor, including 41.0-percent from the perimeter.
Five Lancers finished the night in double figures, led by Jordan Heading with 24 points (9-for-15), along with four assists and two steals. Bul Kuol followed with 14 points (5-for-10). Cory Lange (3-for-9) and Kalidou Diouf (5-for-8) each chipped in 11 points, while Ty Rowell rounded out the quintet with 10 points (4-for-8).
The Lancers out-rebounded FPU 41-to-35, with Kuol and Gabe Taylor each grabbing seven boards on the night.
Neither team could really get going in the first possessions of the game until CBU went on a 13-point run to jump in front 13-3 with 14 minutes left in the first.
The Sunbirds cut the margin down to six, 22-16, with eight minutes left to play and held CBU to just an eight-point cushion, 33-25, at the break.
Heading caught fire in the second half, knocking down four triples in the first eight minutes of the period to put CBU up by 14 points, 54-40.
FPU tried to keep the Lancers' cushion manageable, but CBU went on a 12-0 run to all but put the game out of reach, 70-44. Rowell sparked the spurt with a jumper, followed by a Diouf floater shot. Lange knocked down back-to-back threes and Kuol capped the run by finding an open lane to the basket.
Down the stretch with a 73-49 lead, CBU held off the last-ditch effort from the Sunbirds to seal the 82-59 victory.
The Lancers close out the regular season in the Bay Area, taking on Dominican on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. CBU then heads to Holy Names on Saturday for another 7:30 p.m. tip off.
