RIVERSIDE, Calif. — For the second year in a row, California Baptist University has a top-25 finalist for the Bevo Francis Award.
Kalidou Diouf became the second Lancer in program history to make the top-25 cut after Michael Smith did so last year. Diouf led No. 21-ranked CBU to its first-ever NCAA Division II West Region Championship on Monday and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
The Heidelberg, Germany native leads the Lancers with 18.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. He ranks 10th in Division II with a 62.5 shooting percentage and has had 10 double-doubles so far this year and scored in double figures 30 times.
Earlier this year, Diouf became the ninth player in CBU history to break 1,000-point and 500-rebound career marks in just three years.
The Bevo Francis Award's third Watch List consists of 25 of the finest men's basketball players in the country who compete in the affiliations of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA Division I, NAIA Division II, USCAA and NCCAA. The committee chose this elite group from over 1,100 colleges and universities and took into consideration individual statistics, previous awards, milestones and team success. The finalists of this award will be announced in a highlight video that will be released on March 31.
CBU heads to Sioux Falls, S.D., this weekend for the Elite Eight. The Lancers first take on No. 7-ranked Queens on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. Pacific.
