LAS VEGAS – For the first time in program history, California Baptist University competed at the National Dance Alliance/United Spirit Association Collegiate Dance Camp — its first chance to compete since the program was created this past spring.
"We won multiple awards and the Lancer Dancers made a great showing," said Coach Kristy Kane Mapes. "I'm very proud of my team with their effort and accomplishments!"
The Lancers debuted at an excellent level, winning a Spirit Award the very first night and grabbing first place in the USA Showtime Routine and second place in the Team Dance Competition. CBU was also voted on by the USA staff as the Hardest Working Team and earned itself a Full Paid Bid to USA Collegiate Championships — the only team to get one.
CBU also stood out on an individual level as Alexis Stroud was named the Top Gun Hip Hop Winner, while Brooke Wendel was a Top-10 Dance Star finalist. The duo also earned themselves All-American dance honors to become the first Lancers to do so.
As a team, the Lancers earned Excellent and Superior rating recognition for their Game Day routines, along with a Gold Paid Bid to NDA Nationals.
The Lancers will look to carry momentum from their first outing as a competitive dance team into the upcoming inaugural season.
