RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University's dance team claimed its first-ever United Spirit Association (USA) West Coast Spirit Championship last weekend, as announced by the United Spirit Association virtually.
The Lancers won the category called 'All In One Performance Game Day,' a routine that featured 35 Lancer dancers. It marks the first-ever USA Championship for the dance program.
"This is a special team full of talented dancers," said head coach Kristy Kane-Mapes. "They have persevered, stayed passionate, and focused on their goals and finished strong. I am beyond proud to coach them and make history this year with our first USA Championship Title."
Due to health and safety guidelines, the Lancers filmed and uploaded their routine to the USA Competition to be scored and judged virtually. The award was announced online at VarsityTV.
A statement from USA Virtual Events:
We understand that things may be different this year, but that shouldn't keep any team from gaining knowledgeable feedback from our judges and beginning their competition season from the safety and comfort of your practice facility, gym, or studio space. In addition to allowing teams to participate and compete from anywhere, teams can also qualify for 2021 USA Spirit, Dance, and Jr. Nationals at our virtual regional events.
