
CBU Starts Strong In Close Game

Three Lancers: Britney Thomas, Caitlyn Harper and Delacy Brown scored in double figures in a 60-56 loss in the UTRGV Fieldhouse. Thomas scored 15 points and had five rebounds in 16 minutes, while Harper had 12 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Brown added 10 points, three steals and four boards.
CBU started the first and second quarters on 7-0 runs to take an early lead. Field goals from Ane Olaeta, Lexy Ram and Thomas helped CBU take a 7-0 lead less than a minute into the game.

UTRGV fought back to take a 14-13 lead with 45 seconds left in the first quarter, but a three-pointer from Emma Meriggioli kept CBU ahead 16-14 going into the second.

Four points from Thomas and a three from Olaeta helped the Lancers go in front 23-14 about a minute and a half into the second quarter.

The Vaqueros then used a big run to take a 33-26 early in the third quarter. The Lancers responded with a 16-9 run over the next four-plus minutes to take back a 42-40 advantage with about three-and-a-half minutes left in the period. Brown scored eight of those points in the run, while Thomas and Caitlyn Harper added four each.

UTRGV closed out strong and took a 51-43 lead into the fourth. The Lancers tightened up on defense to pull within six (59-53) with less than a minute left on an 8-2 run highlighted by points from Brown, Ram, Meriggioli and Harper.
The Lancers move to 6-8, 0-2 in the WAC this season, while the Vaqueros improve to 7-7, 1-0. CBU returns home to host Kansas City on Thursday at 6 p.m. and Chicago State Saturday at 1 p.m.
