Lancers' Split Squad Put Together Strong Saturday

BAKERSFIELD AND RIVERSIDE – Evan Honer started his collegiate career with a victory in his first-ever event at the Lancer Dive Invite, while California Baptist University's swimmers logged six top-three finishes at the Roadrunner Invite on Saturday.
Jacob Leahy had a hand in four top-three swims for CBU, while Josh Walters had three and Robert Moseley added two in Bakersfield. The Lancers took third place at the Roadrunner Invite with 414 points. UC Santa Barbara won the meet (668.5), while host CSUB took second (458.5).
Back in Riverside, Honer won the one-meter championship at the Lancer Diving Invite. He led the entire way through after scoring a 291.75 in prelims and a 297.45 in the finals to just edge Pacific's Mackaby Pennington (297).
The Lancers started the Roadrunner Invite with a runner-up swim in the 400-yard medley relay. Leahy, Moseley and Walters teamed up with Sean Foster to touch the wall second in three minutes, 22.32 seconds.
Walters (21.15) edged out Leahy (21.20) for second place in the 50 free, while Leahy took second in the 100 free with a time of 46.3.
Kyle White and Matthew Niculae teamed up with Walters and Leahy for a third-place performance in the 400-free relay (3:03.82) at the end of the meet.
Moseley secured three top-eight and two top-four individual finishes on Saturday. He took third in the 200 individual medley (1:54.86), fourth in the 200 backstroke (1:53.30) and seventh in the 200 free (1:44.61). Trent Itow pushed Moseley before taking fifth (1:53.72) in the 200 back.
Foster's best finish of the day came when he took fourth in the 200 breast (2:08.05), while Adityastha Wratsangka also placed fourth in the 200 butterfly (1:53.82). Quinn Birtles took sixth in the 200 fly (1:54.32) and eighth in the 500 free (4:48.06) for CBU.
Dylan Sweikert (fifth, 9:54.13) and Christian Meyer (sixth, 9:57.77) finished back-to-back in the 1000 free. Meyer added a 10th-place swim in the 500 free (4:51.21).
At the Lancer Dive Invite, both Tyler Stevens and Zane Freeman qualified for the 1-meter finals and finished in sixth and eighth place, with final scores of 241.20 and 221.60, respectively.
Stevens (266.45) and Freeman (258.90) then finished back-to-back in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the 3-meter championship. Honer took seventh in the finals (245.70), but ranked fifth with a 255.20 score in the prelims.
