Three Lancers Secure Runner-Up Finishes

BAKERSFIELD and RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University's swimmers took third place at CSU Bakersfield's Roadrunner Invite, while the divers put together big performances at the Lancer Dive Invitational on Saturday.
Three Lancers: Mackenzie Degn, Isabella Rhodes and Kiree Lowe secured runner-up finishes on the day. Degn took second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of five minutes, 5.04 seconds and Rhodes touched second in the 200 individual medley (2:11.10), while Lowe took second on the 3-meter board with 249.90 points.
CBU tallied 279.5 points to take third place at the five-team Roadrunner Invite. UC Santa Barbara won the meet with 610.5 points, while host CSU Bakersfield took second (428). The Lancers beat out San Jose State (256) and Dixie State (143).
Rebeca Oviedo logged three individual top-eight finishes in Bakersfield. The sophomore took fourth in the 500 free (5:05.71), sixth in the 200 free (1:54.93) and eighth in the 200 IM (2:12.58).
True freshman Faith Brazil continued a hot start to her collegiate career by taking fourth in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.26), while Alexa Melara took ninth in 2:27.06.
Nicole Cienega (2:08.41) and Elizabeth Brouwer (2:11.94) took fifth and 10th, respectively, in the 200 butterfly for CBU. Rita Smirnova and Rhodes both broke 25 seconds in the 50 free to sixth (24.84) and seventh (24.88), respectively, in the 50 free.
The Lancers' top relay finish came in the 400 free, as Hannah Parson, Degn, McKenzie Kelley and Rhodes took fifth in 3:34.77. Degn ended her day with a seventh-place swim in the 100 free (53.37). CBU also got top-10 swims from Buse Topcu (eighth, 10:56.86) and Morgan Giordano (10th, 11:09.03) in the 1000 free and from Brouwer in the 500 free (10th, 5:12.89).
Back in Riverside, Lowe posted two top-three finishes and Savannah Uhlir was top four on both boards at the Lancer Diving Invite.
Lowe took second at 3-meter with a 249.40 score in the finals, which was a 17.10 point improvement from prelims (232.50). Uhlir secured fourth place with a 247.55 on her final six dives, which was 13.25 points better than her preliminary total of 234.30.
True freshman Madison Liu took ninth place with a 176.15 in the finals, but she posted the third-best score in prelims (235.50).
Lowe, Liu and Uhlir finished back-to-back-to-back in third through fifth on the 1-meter board at the Lancer Diving Invite. Lowe scored a 230.65 in the finals, while Liu posted a 225 after putting up 232.05 in prelims. Uhlir bettered her score by a point in the finals with a 213.30.
