FULLERTON -- Ane Olaeta continued her scoring hot streak and set a new season-high with 29 points as California Baptist University traveled to Cal State Fullerton on Friday.
Despite Olaeta's outburst, the Titans came away with the 97-93 victory in Titan Gym. Olaeta added five assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals to round out her stat line.
Tiena Afu fell just shy of a putting up a double-double, scoring 16 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Tiena Neale tied her career-high of 14 points tonight on the heels of stellar 4-for-5 shooting from beyond-the-arc.
For the Lancers, it was a tale of two halves. In the first two quarters of play, CBU shot 41.7 percent (15-36) from the field and an even better 44.4 percent (8-18) from three-point range. The Lancers' first-half efforts were helped largely by freshmen duo Taylor Wu and Neale, who went a combined 6-of-10 overall and 5-of-7 from long distance.
The second half came up all Titans, as the home team shot 54.5 percent from the field in the second half, and capped the game off in the final frame by going 12-of-15 from the free-throw line.
CBU dominated points off turnovers (22-7), bench points (26-6) and fastbreak points (8-0) at the end of the game, but the Titans secured the victory with advantages in rebounds (53-30) and points in the paint (42-30).
Next, the Lancers will travel to face the Idaho State Bengals on Monday. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Pacific time.
