POCATELLO – Five Lancers scored in double-figures and turned in the performance of the season in their first road win of the year, defeating Idaho State 74-68.
Delacy Brown truly delivered in the second half where she scored all 17 of her points.
CBU had a huge night at the free throw line, shooting a season-best 90.5 percent on 19-21 overall. Brown (5-5), Tiena Afu (3-3), Ragnheidur Einarsdottir (3-3), and Ane Olaeta (2-2) were all locked in at the line, while Sydney Palma made the most, going 6-8.
Brown had her best all-around game of the season, filling up her stat line with five rebounds, two assists, a steal and her first block of the season.
Tiena Afu put up a double-double against the Bengals, scoring 10 points and grabbing a team-high 10 rebounds.
Taylor Wu kept the Lancers in the game as the Bengals attempted to pull away in the second quarter. She scored nine of her 11 points in the second quarter getting hot from beyond the arc and going 3-3 from three-point land.
Lexy Ram and Olaeta scored 10 and 13 respectively. Lam got the Lancers off on the right foot scoring eight of her points in the first quarter, while Ane added to Brown's outburst in the second, scoring 11 in the third and fourth quarters.
The game was tight throughout, with the Lancers briefly holding the largest lead of the game at seven midway through the third quarter. CBU overcame a pair of Bengal double-doubles on the backs of guard quickness and ability to get to the rim, and subsequently, the free throw line.
The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Lancers, improving their record to 8-5 on the year and putting them just percentage points behind an 8-3 CSU Bakersfield team for the top spot in the WAC.
The Lancers will return to Riverside to host their final game of 2019, welcoming the Aztecs of San Diego State. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday night at the CBU Events Center.
