PHOENIX --- California Baptist University's men's basketball team completed its first Western Athletic Conference road sweep on Saturday, as the Lancers beat the Antelopes of Grand Canyon, 61-57.
CBU improves to 12-5 on the season and 3-1 in the WAC after beating both CSU Bakersfield and Grand Canyon on the road. The loss for the Lopes is just the sixth loss since 2016 at home to WAC opponents. Coming into the game, the Lopes held a 24-5 record in their last 29 WAC home games.
Brandon Boyd was big all night for the Lancers, finishing his second straight game as the team's top scorer. He finished with a team-high 16 points and five rebounds. Ferron Flavors Jr. added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Milan Acquaah and Bul Kuol recorded 10 points each. Acquaah added nine rebounds and five assists to his line, while Kuol grabbed eight boards.
Grand Canyon won the tip and scored on its first possession, but that lead wouldn't last as the Lancers went on a 7-2 run to take control of the game. In fact, the Lopes led for just 24 seconds on the night, while the Lancers maintained the lead for 33 minutes and 46 seconds.
That's too much room for Acquaah!

De'jon Davis tied the game up on the Lancers' first possession, and Zach Pirog and Milan Acquaah made back-to-back baskets to give the Lancers a five-point lead, 7-2.
Offensively, things slowed down after that as both teams were unsuccessful in getting any type of momentum going. With the game tied at 9-9 at the 14:19 mark, fans watched as four minutes ticked off the game clock before the next score.
Boyd broke the silence for the Lancers with a layup underneath, while the Lopes went another minute without getting on the board.
The Lancers kept their lead for the next eight minutes, but the Lopes rallied back to secure the fourth tie of the game on an Alessandro Lever jumper.
Both teams traded baskets on the next two possessions, and the score was tied for the fifth time at 22-22 with 1:20 left in the half.
Kuol gave the Lancers some much-needed momentum going into the break, hitting back-to-back threes to give the Lancers a six-point edge, 28-22.

Coming out of the break, the Lancers were in full swing, grabbing their first double-digit lead at the 16:56 mark on an Acquaah free throw.
CBU held the double-digit margin for the next 11 minutes before GCU started to make its run.
The Lopes went on an 8-0 run from the 8:59 mark to the 6:28 mark to bring the game within three, 49-46.
Davis ended the Lopes run on an extra effort play, dropping in a second-chance layup after an Acquaah missed jumper.

After the Davis layup, it was the Lancers' turn to go on a run. CBU scored nine straight points to grow its lead back to double digits with less than four minutes to play.
The Lopes started their climb again and brought the game within one on a Mikey Dixon three with 47 seconds left, 58-57.
Boyd brought the ball up and ran down as much clock as he could around half court. With the game clock and the shot clock separated, Boyd made his move with 23 seconds left in the game. He beat his defender down the right side and forced his way into the paint, putting up a floater that hit nothing but net.
