RIVERSIDE -- Both California Baptist University cross country teams were honored when the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced it's annual list of Academic All-American programs on Thursday. It is the second year in a row that CBU has obtained this honor at the NCAA Division I level.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
"I am very proud of both teams for their continued pursuit of academic excellence," Coach Adam Tribble said.
Out of 307 institutions with men's cross-country, only 191 of them met the standards this season. The Lancer men qualified with an average GPA of 3.11, up from last years mark of 3.06.
Of the 333 schools at the D-I level with women's cross country, 197 made the cut. The CBU women turned in a GPA of 3.62, also an improvement over last years mark of 3.58. The 2019 average was high enough to place CBU in the top 27 percent of qualified schools.
The teams will shift their focus to the upcoming outdoor track season which will begin on February 15th at the Pomona-Pitzer Collegiate All-Comers meet.
