WBB Preview: Lancers Open Season With Home and Away Slate
11/23/2020 12:26:00 PM | Women's Basketball
RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University women's basketball is set to begin its season at home on Opening Day, Nov. 25, against Fresno Pacific. The Lancers will then hit the road for the first time, with a trip to take on the Anteaters of UC Irvine on Nov. 28.
The 2020-21 team will be forced to replace last season's top scorer and rebounder after four-year Lancer Lexy Ram graduated last summer. They have plenty of options to do so. Ane Olaeta and Britney Thomas -- both Preseason Western Athletic Conference First Team selections -- are the top contenders to lead the Lancers, but with depth at every position it could be hard earned over the course of the year.
There's a mix of veterean leadership and six new talents to the CBU squad, with five of the team's newcomers set for their first taste of NCAA Division I action. Three freshman and three transfers fill out Coach Jarrod Olson's roster, with all of them looking to challenge for their share of playing time this season.
The 14-player squad and their coaches will begin their march towards the WAC season by first taking on nine scheduled non-conference opponents. The team will then navigate eight back-to-back conference game weekends over the course of the next nine weeks before making their WAC Tournament debut in Las Vegas in March.
