OREM --- California Baptist University had four players in double figures as the comeback fell short against Utah Valley on Saturday night.
It came down to the final seconds, as both teams traded baskets late, and the one-possession game ended with the Wolverines on the free-throw line to take the victory over the Lancers, 81-77.
Trailing by three with 12 seconds left in the game, the Lancers drew up an in-bounds play, but the Wolverines elected to foul the Lancers to send Elijah Thomas to the charity stripe. Thomas made the first one and then tried to direct his second shot off the rim to a teammate, but UVU's Fardaws Aimaq gathered the rebound, and the Lancers were forced to foul Aimaq to send the Wolverine to the line.
Aimaq made the pair at the line, and a last-second three by Tre Armstrong fell short, as the Wolverines were able to escape the Lancers' attack.
Tre Armstrong led both teams on the night, finishing with 24 points on 6-9 shooting and a perfect 11-11 from the free-throw line. He also added two assists and two rebounds to his 32 minutes of play.
Elijah Thomas went 7-15 from the field with seven rebounds to record 16 points, while Reed Nottage added 14 points, and Gorjok Gak had 12 points and nine rebounds.
