Box Score 2 RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University men's water polo ground out two one-goal wins at home on Saturday, with an 11-10 Western Water Polo Association victory over Santa Clara and a 10-9 win over 16
th-ranked Pomona-Pitzer.
The 17
th-ranked Lancers have now won three-straight games to improve to 16-13 overall this season and 4-2 in the WWPA. Santa Clara drops to 12-12 and 2-4, while the Sagehens had their nine-game winning streak stopped and dropped to 19-8.
There were a number of highlight performances for CBU on Saturday.
PJ McDonough scored a fourth-quarter hat trick, including the eventual winner with 77 seconds left in the game, and a game-high four goals to lead the Lancers to the opening win over the Broncos.
Zach Lowery also had two goals and four assists on Santa Clara, while
Caleb Teraoka added two goals and two assists in the victory.
Tristan Felberg was the star of the nightcap with 14 saves in the cage against Pomona-Pitzer.
Joseph Griffin provided the game winner with 33 seconds left in regulation, while Teraoka had two big second-half goals on Pomona-Pitzer.
The Lancers will play two more WWPA games in the final week of the regular season and both are at home. CBU will first host Concordia on Thursday at 6 p.m. and will then welcome in Air Force on Saturday for a noon contest.
CBU will look to finish strong and secure the highest seed possible for the WWPA Championships, which will be played Nov. 19-21 at UC Davis.
The Aggies are the only undefeated team left in the conference at 6-0. Loyola Marymount is currently in second at 5-1 in conference, while Air Force (5-2) and UC San Diego (4-2) all have just two WWPA losses like CBU (4-2). Santa Clara (2-4), Fresno Pacific (2-5), Concordia (1-5) and Biola (0-8) round out the WWPA standings.
