RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University volleyball put together a Senior Day to remember as it swept Grand Canyon in its final home match of the regular season. It gives the Lancers six-straight wins and moves them into sole possession of first place in the Western Athletic Conference standings.
An efficient offensive performance led by Scherine Dahoue and Tesa Oaks and another strong attack from the service line sent the Lancers to a 25-18, 25-18, 27-25 win over the Lopes. CBU improves to 13-8 on the year and 8-3 in WAC play, while GCU slips to 15-5 and 7-4 as its four-match winning streak comes to an end.
Dahoue put down 12 kills on a .524 hitting percentage (12-1-21), while Oaks had 10 kills on a .375 clip (10-1-24). The Lancers hit .326 as a team overall (38-10-86) and got nine aces to help them post a 61.9 sideout percentage. CBU also had a 48-35 advantage in digs and 5-3 in blocks to hold Grand Canyon to a .151 hitting percentage (33-17-106).
Setters Hana Okuhara and Leah Pease ran the offense to perfection for CBU. Okuhara put up 17 assists, seven digs and matched her career-high four aces on her Senior Match, while Pease had 15 assists, nine digs and an ace.
Cassidy Dennison had a team-high 11 digs and Paige Johnstone added nine, as well.
