WBB PREVIEW: Lancers Challenge Cal Poly in Final Non-Conference Tilt
12/20/2021 11:15:00 AM | Women's Basketball
RIVERSIDE – The California Baptist University women's basketball team will take to the road for one last non-conference game, this time challenging the Mustangs of Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. The 8-2 Lancers will look to extend their three-game win streak before the break and ahead of the start of Western Athletic Conference play on Jan. 2.
Cal Poly represents the fifth Big West opponent for a CBU team looking to make it a clean sweep against the conference. The Lancers have previously defeated UC Riverside (62-59), UC Irvine (93-88 OT), UC Santa Barbara (68-56) and UC San Diego (74-73). The Jarrod Olson-led Lancers hold an overall record of 14-4 against the Big West since the move to Division I in the 2018-19 season.
The Lancers won both games last week against UCSD and Santa Clara by a combined five points. The tight contests tested CBU's grit and perseverance, proving the team can get the job done in a myriad of ways. Ane Olaeta was the constant last week, averaging 17 points, 5.5 rebounds and five assists per game.

Cal Poly enters the contest on a five-game skid, claiming just the one win so far this season at home against St. Thomas. Of the Mustangs' seven losses, only one has been by single digits, a 61-53 loss to Nevada in early December.
Cal Poly made the trip to Riverside a season ago resulting in a 61-51 victory for the Lancers. The two leading scorers for the Mustangs from that game did not return this season, so they will lean heavily on this year's top-scorers Maddie Vick (11.6 points per-game) and Maddie Willett (10.6) to produce against CBU.
