Lancers Get a Big Night from Their Defense and Hoye in Texas

EDINBURG – California Baptist University volleyball got big nights from its defense and Cali Hoye in its Western Athletic Conference series opener at The University of Rio Grande Valley on Monday.
Despite the Lancers' big performances, the Vaqueros still found a way to win in three sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-21) in the UTRGV Fieldhouse. It gives UTRGV its first win of the season, as it moves to 1-8, 1-6 in the WAC and CBU moves to 4-6, 3-6.
Hoye recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 12 digs, while Paige Johnstone and Cassidy Dennison each put up a team-high 15 digs. Christine Graf and Ellie Voss had all-around matches, with seven kills and five blocks each, while Graf hit .375 percent (7-1-16). Leah Pease posted a team-high 17 assists and Hana OKuhara added 15 more.

The Lancers and Vaqueros will wrap up their season series with a match on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Pacific in the UTRGV Fieldhouse. CBU will then prepare for two home matches with Grand Canyon on March 8-9, with start times set for 6 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
