VB Preview: CBU's Headed to Texas for WAC Showdown with UTRGV

EDINBURG – California Baptist University volleyball's Western Athletic Conference schedule continues with a road trip to The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
The Lancers and Vaqueros will both be looking to get back on the right track in their back-to-back matchup on Monday and Tuesday. CBU is looking to put a stop to a five-match losing streak, as it is now 4-5 overall and 3-5 in the WAC, while UTRGV is still searching for its first win with an 0-8 and 0-6 WAC record.
CBU will look to get back in the mix for a top-four finish in the WAC, as it currently sits tied for fifth in the conference standings. NM State leads the league at 8-0, while Grand Canyon and Utah Valley are tied for second at 6-2. Dixie State currently has sole possession of fourth place at 5-5, with two more matches played than the Lancers.
ON THE ATTACK
Calissa Hoye surpassed the century mark when it comes to kills this season. She has now reached double-digit kills six times and has two 20-kill performances on the year. Her 115 kills this season are 40 more than the next Lancer for a 3.59 per set average. Hoye also has four double-doubles on the year, with 67 digs (2.09 a set).
Christine Graf has emerged as the No. 2 attacker for the Lancers, as the right side has 75 kills (2.27 a set). The sophomore has seven kills in seven matches and three double-digit outings, with a season-high 15.
STRONG IN THE MIDDLE
Ellie Voss and Chandler Gorman have been dual threats for the Lancers at middle blocker. They are tied for the team lead in blocks with 19 each. Voss also has 49 kills, 18 digs and two aces on the year. She leads CBU with a .285 hitting percentage, as well. Gorman also has 24 kills and three aces on the year.
The Lancers' block has come alive of late, with 29 of their 43 blocks this season coming in the last six matches. CBU has had at least six blocks in three of its last six outings, with a season-high eight against Utah Valley on Feb. 8.
WAC LEADERS
Five Lancers rank top-10 in the WAC in a number of statistics, while CBU sits as a top-three force in several categories as a team.
As a team, the Lancers rank second in the WAC in aces (44); fourth in the WAC in assists (384) and kills (405), assists per set (11.64), aces per set (1.33) and fifth in digs (443).
Hoye ranks fourth in the entire WAC in kills per set (3.59) and sixth in total kills (115). Paige Johnstone ranks fifth in the conference in total digs (125) and digs per set (4.03). Tesa Oaks ranks second in the entire WAC with 0.53 aces per set and sixth with 10 aces this year, despite not playing in most of the last five matches.
Leah Pease and Hana Okuhara both rank top-10 in the WAC in assists to this point. Pease ranks sixth in total assists (178) and ninth in assists per set (5.39). Okuhara is ninth in total assists (152) and 10th in per set average (4.61).

- Caraballo is listed as a libero/outside hitter and does a bit of everything for the Vaqueros. She leads the team with 94 digs (3.62 a set) and ranks third with 52 kills (2.00).
- Veronika Jandova and Cruz lead the offense, as Jandova has a team-high 66 kills (2.54) on a .303 hitting percentage and Cruz is close behind with 58 kills (2.42). Jandova also leads the team with 14 blocks.
- Mackenzie Coates is the setter and has 209 assists. She ranks fourth in the WAC with a 8.04 assists per set average.
