Lancers Return To WAC Play, Take On Wolverines At Home

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University softball got back into conference action Friday afternoon when it hosted a doubleheader against Utah Valley. The Wolverines came into the day still searching for their first Western Athletic Conference win and found it after taking game one by a score of 2-0 and earned a second win over the Lancers in game two, 9-0.

CBU moves to 12-21-1 overall and 2-3 in conference, while Utah Valley improves to 14-16 and 2-3 as well. The series finale is scheduled for a 12 p.m. first pitch on Saturday.

Brittany Galvez, Makayla Jordan, Deja Westbrook, Maile Olsen, Tiana Patrick, Amanda Argomaniz and Abby Robertson all had base hits on Friday.

In game one, the Lancers got a complete-game effort from starting pitcher Kerisa Viramontes. She limited the Wolverines to just two runs on five hits and four walks and struck out nine in the game. Offensively, CBU spread four hits among four different hitters.

The Lancers' best scoring chance came in the bottom of the fourth. CBU put runners on first and second before UVU swapped pitchers. The Lancers loaded the bases with just one out, but a pop out and a fly out ended the threat.

The Wolverines kept up their scoring ways in game two, as they plated two in the third, four in the sixth, and another three in the seventh. All three of CBU's hits came in the first two innings.
