
Lancers Close Out Bruin Diving Invitational With Strong Showing

WESTWOOD – California Baptist University dive teams closed out the UCLA Bruin Diving Invitational with their strongest single-day showing yet. Paula De Moya Alvarez was joined in the women's platform finals by Kiree Lowe while Evan Honer and the men's side had another strong showing, this time in the 1-meter event.
De Moya qualified for finals on the back of a sixth-place finish in the prelims with a score of 241.35, finishing ahead of Daria Lenz from Stanford, a recent Olympic Trial competitor and NCAA National Finalist. She would go on to finish the event with a 210.90 to earn 10th place overall. Lowe earned her way into the finals with a preliminary score of 196.60, ultimately concluding the meet with an 18th place finish in the finals.
Honer claimed seventh in his final event of the weekend, tallying a final total score of 598.95 on the 1-meter springboard. The newest CBU diver, Tycho Meulebeek, who joined the team at semester, led a grouping of Lancers who finished 13th, 14th and 15th, respectively. Meulebeek closed the day with a final total score of 506.35, with Jacob Penman right behind with a 474.75 just edging out Tyler Stevens, who recorded a score of 474.65.
The entire Lancer diving squad continued to show great improvement all weekend in Westwood, setting themselves up for a strong showing at the Air Force Invite in just a few weeks while carrying optimism with them towards the Western Athletic Conference Championships.

The Lancers will return to Riverside to prepare for the final home meet of the season. CBU will host Grand Canyon on Jan. 22 with action set to begin at 11:00 a.m. Prior to the start of races and dives, Senior Day festivities will be held at 10:40 a.m. on the pool deck to honor nearly 20 swim and dive seniors.
