Lancers Honor Seniors Prior to Dual with Grand Canyon

RIVERSIDE –California Baptist University honored 21 swim and dive seniors prior to Saturday's final home meet against Grand Canyon. The Lancers reminisced about fun memories and departing seniors left their remaining teammates with bits of wisdom before challenging the Lopes in the pool.
The Lancer men ran away from the Lopes, winning in dominant fashion with a score of 183.5-115.5. Grand Canyon would split the day though, taking the win over the Lancer women, 163.5-132.5.
SWIM
The men walked away with 11 total wins on the day, including a pair of relay victories. An all senior relay team made up of Jacob Leahy, Scott Tolman, Josh Walters and Matthew Niculae touched first in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of one minute and 31.48 seconds, edging the Grand Canyon A Team by .12 of a second.
Remi Fabiani swept the men's freestyle sprints, winning the 50 (20.30), the 100 (45.09) and the 200 (1.41.15). Robert Moseley won both backstroke events, claiming first in the 100 (50.87) and the 200 (1:52.08). Tolman also laid claim to multiple events, sweeping the 100 (56.92) and the 200 breast (2:05.54).
John Sullivan and Brendan Man each won an event, as Sullivan took first in the 500 free in 4:46.19, while Man earned a rare tied-win in the 100 butterfly in a time of 49.62.
Senior Day saw a freshman winner double up on the women's side as Giulia Decataldo claimed the crown in the distance events, winning the 500 free (5:10.25) and the 1,000 free (10:31.48). Fellow freshman Amber Harris took gold in the 200 fly in 2:06.58.
Senior Patricia Van Law closed out her home collegiate career with a win in the 200 IM in a time of 2:08.52. Faith Brazil ended her home season with the closest win of the day, taking the 200 breast by .06 seconds in a time of 2:22.10.
DIVE
Senior diver Kiree Lowe brought her A-game and won the 1-meter event with a score of 235.43. She would follow that up with a runner-up finish in the 3-meter event, scoring a 275.48. Freshman Paula De Moya Alvarez would edge Lowe for the 3-meter title, winning with a score of 285.53.
Evan Honer defended his pool strongly against the Lopes, earning both wins in the dual. He first took the 3-meter with a score of 350.25 before taking the 1-meter title with a total of 345.08.
UP NEXT
The Lancers' next pool date will be on January 29 in La Jolla when they take on the Tritons of UC San Diego. That meet is set to begin at 12 p.m.
