NACOGDOCHES – California Baptist University women's basketball took on first-place Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Ladyjacks 79-62. The Lancers move to 15-4 on the season and 6-2 in Western Athletic Conference play. The win puts SFA in full control of the WAC regular season title race as they improve to 16-3 overall and remain undefeated in the league at 7-0.
Sydney Palma led the offensive charge for the Lancers, scoring nine of her team-high 13 points during a fourth quarter push. Caitlyn Harper dropped 12 points to go with five rebounds, four steals and two blocks, and Georgia Dale rounded out the double-digit scorers for CBU with 11 points on 5-7 shooting.
A below-season average shooting day for CBU, contrasted by three Ladyjacks combining to score 61 of SFA's 79 points, was simply too much for the Lancers to overcome. The Jack's win hinged on two main categories they capitalized in. The first was points off of turnovers where they outscored the Lancers 23-11 and free throws where SFA was +9 in makes and +13 in attempts compared to CBU.
UP NEXT
The Lancers will return home looking to right the ship with a doubleheader against New Mexico State and Grand Canyon on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. CBU and the Aggies will tip at 6 p.m. on Thursday night in the CBU Events Center.
