RIVERSIDE – Just a few days removed from dominating the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, the California Baptist University cross country teams have solidified their standings in the national polls.
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released new polls on Tuesday morning, ranking the CBU women No. 14 in the nation and the Lancer men at No. 25. The women's side remains the third-ranked team in the West Region after jumping Washington a week ago, and the men sit behind only Stanford, Washington, and Oregon in their West Region rankings.
The rankings come after a strong performance in Texas last weekend at the 2022 WAC Championship Meet where CBU cross country became the first school in conference history to sweep both men's and women's team titles multiple times. The Lancers did it for the second time in the last three years and produced another individual champion and freshman of the year honoree at the 2022 WAC Championship meet.
The rankings hold extra weight ahead of the upcoming NCAA Regional races that are set to run on November 11. Both CBU squads will send full teams to Seattle in a week and a half to participate in the West Region race, a milestone accomplishment for the Lancers who were held back from this level of competition in recent years solely due to their Division II to Division I transition status.
Upwards of 35 teams are included in the West Region, including schools from the WAC, Mountain West, Big West, Pac-12 and WCC. The race fields are deep and strong with many programs already residing in the top-30 of the national rankings poll.
