RIVERSIDE— The California Baptist University women's basketball team continues their season with home games against Northern Arizona and Santa Clara this week. The Lancers are 1-1 to begin the season with a opening day 84-76 win over UCSD, followed by an 88-81 loss to Saint Mary's on Saturday.
Sophomore Trinity San Antonio scored a career high 31 points against UCSD and pulled down ten rebounds to record her second career double-double. San Antonio followed it up with 17 points and five assists in the loss to the Gaels. Colorado transfer Sila Finau was second on the team in scoring with 15 points in both game while averaging five rebounds and 2.5 assists.
The Lancers will open the week by facing the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks of the Big Sky Conference at 6 p.m. on Wednesday night. CBU has played them three times over the last four years and walked away with two wins. The last time these two programs met was in Flagstaff, AZ with the Lancers prevailing, 89-73. The Lancers have averaged 91.7 points per game against NAU and will play them for the second time in Riverside. NAU was selected fourth in the preseason poll for the Big Sky Conference and is coming off of a solid season in which they reached the Big Sky Championship (lost to Montana State 75-64). The Lumberjacks have started the season 1-2 with losses to Arizona and Arizona State on the road and their lone win coming over UCSD.
The second game of the week will be against Santa Clara of the West Coast Conference on Saturday, November 19, at 1 p.m. The Lancers and the Broncos have only faced off once before with the Lancers taking the game 58-54 on a late comeback in 2021. The Broncos were picked to finish eight in the WCC conference preseason poll and are currently 2-1 with their wins coming over Academy of Art and Cal State Fullerton. Their lone loss of the young season came against UC Santa Barbara at home.
