While teammates Fabiani (19.68), Milev (19.85), Branden Man (20.15), and Mosely (20.09) placed fourth. Decataldo improved in the C finals of the 500 freestyle, placing 25th with a time of 4:58.74. Mosley moved in the 200 Medley A finals, moving to sixth place with a time of 1:48.92.
Kovacsics also improved by 11.82 seconds during the 500 freestyle B finals as he finished in 9th place with a time of 4:23.29. His time was historic, nearly three seconds faster than the standing CBU program record. The previous record was set by Robert Griffith in 2016, but Kovacsics' new time not only gives him the Lancer time to beat, but it was also the 18th fastest time in the country this year.
The highlight of the Lancers finals was Fabiani securing his first-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.36, good for a B-cut time for the NCAA Championships and the fifth-fastest lap in the nation so far in 2022. Fabiani also closed the 400-medley relay, with Simeon Rickenburger, Reiter, and Man placing fourth.
Freshman diver Gael Jiminez- Mestes showed out at tonight's finals as he improved his score to 328.70, finishing in fourth place. He was followed by his teammate Honer who finished seventh with a score of 280.25.
The Lancers will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the Purdue Invitational. Prelims are again scheduled for 7 a.m. Pacific time, with finals beginning at 3 p.m.
