
Lancers End the SoCal Challenge Against Southern Illinois; Taran Armstrong Named All-Tournament

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO--- The Lancers, forced back-to-back overtime games in the SoCal Challenge and again fell short, this time at the hands of the Salukis 64-61. The Lancers drop to 3-3 going into the Thanksgiving weekend.
In the first half, the Salukis led 33-26 as the game was tied eight times through the initial 20 minutes.
Tim Ighoefe, making his first start of the season, got another double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to go along with three blocks. Taran Armstrong finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Armstrong was named to the All-Tournament team in the Surf Division after averaging 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists for the tournament. He scored all of his points in the second half of the two games and helped CBU force overtime against Minnesota with the game-tying three in regulation.
The Lancers controlled most of the second half and overcame a 10-point deficit to force overtime. Joe Quintana sent the game to extra minutes with a spot-up triple with 2.2 seconds remaining and got himself to double-figures on the night.
The Lancers fell short in overtime after another long battle that finished well past midnight on the west coast. The Lancers controlled the glass and out-rebounded Southern Illinois 45-32, including a 15-2 offensive rebounding advantage. The Lancers could not convert late at the free throw line and ultimately lost a tight ball game.
NEXT UP: The Lancers will head back to Riverside to face the Central Michigan Chippewas on Saturday, November 26th, at 7 p.m.
