Lancers End UNLV Invite On A High Note

LAS VEGAS – The California Baptist University men's and women's swim teams closed out the UNLV Invite on Monday night, bringing the 2022 portion of their schedule to a close. The men the event in third place with 790.50 points behind hosts UNLV (977 points) and Cal Poly (940). The women completed their trip with a fifth-place finish and a point total of 236. UCLA (1,344), Northern Arizona (762), UNLV (722), and NM State (547) made up the top four finishing teams.
Statistically, the top swimmer of the weekend was Remi Fabiani, who scored 100 points for the Lancers, 24 points clear of the next closest male competitor. Mia Maspers led the way on the women's side, collecting 25 points for CBU.
Fabiani made it a perfect three-day weekend on Monday, securing his fourth and fifth individual victories in the 100 individual medley and the 100 freestyle. His time of 48.62 in the IM set a new program record for CBU, breaking teammate Robert Moseley's precious record of 50.02 to become the first Lancer to go sub-50 and sub-49 in the event. Moseley was on Fabiani's heels in the same race, claiming a second-place finish at the wall. Remi now owns 4⃣ individual CBU records and has contributed to 2⃣ relay records! Mark Kovacsics earned his second win of the meet, taking the 1,650 freestyle by over 12 seconds. Jonathon Reiter found his way onto the podium of the 200 breaststroke by claiming the silver medal. Simeon Rinkenberger (200 backstroke) and Ian Mullen (200 breast) each scored top-five, claiming fourth and fifth place in their respective races.
The women were led by Mia Maspers (100 free) and Lynn Henke (200 breast) on the final day. Both swimmers made the 'A' finals of their respective events, each claiming an eighth-place finish in those heats.
Christmas and New Years' break is in store for the Lancers, but they waste no time in getting things started in 2023, hosting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on January 6 at the Lancer Aquatics Center.
