
CBU Closes Out WAC Championships With a Dozen Honors on Day Four

CBU's men finished the weekend in fourth place with 555.33 total points, as the heavily favored UNLV Rebels took the team crown for a second-straight year with 845.50 points, over 215 points clear of second place Air Force. The women closed out the meet in fifth place out of eight teams with 410 points, as Northern Arizona continued its incredible run of dominance with an eighth-straight team title.
In total, the Lancers earned eight WAC titles, 10 First Team accolades and 20 Second Team honors. CBU also broke nine program records and one WAC Meet record during a very successful trip to Houston.
DIVE
It was the women's turn on the platform as CBU was represented in the finals by senior Kiree Lowe and freshman Paula De Moya Alvarez. Lowe claimed the final qualifying spot for the finals after scoring 200.30 points in the prelims. She left it all out there in the final WAC event of her CBU career, jumping all the way up to take First Team honors in third place with a score of 229.90.
De Moya on the other hand, entered the final round as the top seed after posting a 242.00 in qualifiers. She would go on to blow away with the competition, scoring a new program record of 273.65 points, the most in a WAC Championship round since 2016. The Spaniard brought the entire natatorium to its feet with her fourth dive, which earned her the highest score of the day, a 73.95.

SWIM
Freshman Jonathan Reiter capped a very successful debut championship meet with his first individual crown, winning the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of one minute and 56.10 seconds. Reiter was part of each of the championship 200 and 400 medley relay teams and earned all-conference first team honors in the 100 breast.

Patricia Van Law put a bow on a wonderful collegiate career at the WAC Championships, earning first team honors in the 200 backstroke with a third-place finish. Freshman Giulia Decataldo finished runner-up in the 1650 freestyle event, her second runner-up finish of the weekend.

Five Lancer men earned second team honors on the final day. For the men, seniors Brandon Schuster and Jacob Leahy closed out phenomenal CBU careers with a seventh-place finish in the 200 breast and a sixth place finish in the 100 free, respectively. Christian Meyer earned his first accolade of the meet with an eighth-place finish in the 1650 free. Robert Moseley and Trevor Van Law each earned second team honors in the 200 back, with Moseley claiming fourth place and Van Law not far behind in sixth.

A pair of women's swimmers claimed second team honors as well. Faith Brazil and Rebeca Oviedo each added another conference accolade to their bio page, as Brazil took seventh in the 200 breast event and Oviedo went the distance and took fourth in the 1650 free.

UP NEXT
For most of the CBU swim and dive team, the season ended on Saturday but a select few will qualify and travel to take part in the CSCAA National Invitational Championship in Elkhart, Indiana, on March 10-12. Those participants are still to be determined.
