De Moya Alvarez Reaches Finals On Day Two of AFA Diving Invite

AIR FORCE ACADEMY – The second day of action at the Air Force Academy Diving Invitational again saw Paula De Moya Alvarez and Evan Honer advancing past the prelims, but this time it was De Moya reaching the finals and finishing the day as the highest placing Lancer.
De Moya opened the day on the low board diving well in the women's 1-meter preliminary round on her way an 8th place finish, posting a 255.65 score to qualify for the finals. She would finish the day with another 8th place conclusion in the event finals with a score of 240.10.
Friday also meant it was the women's turn to compete in the team event. Each team selects three divers to performs two dives in the 1-meter, the 3-meter, and the platform events encompassing all six variations of scored dives. Last time the women challenged a field in a team event, they managed a 5th place finish at the UCLA Bruin Invite. Today, they improved on that placement, taking 4th, ahead of Air Force and the University of Denver.
The men moved up to the 3-meter board on Friday where Jacob Penman improved his placement from yesterday's 24th place finish on the 1-meter, to being within reach of the consolation bracket with his 18th place result in today's prelims. Evan Honer secured a second set of dives by nabbing the final spot out of the prelims, carding a 282.55 to take 16th. His point total improved during his second go-around, earning 2nd place in the consolation bracket with a score of 332.80.
