CBU Completes Regular Season Series Sweep of Seattle U

RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University women's basketball opened up the first leg of a two-home game weekend against Seattle U with sights set on a season sweep of the Redhawks. The Lancers would accomplish that task, downing Seattle with a convincing 72-58 victory in Riverside.
Trinity San Antonio and Grace Schmidt would combine to score 58.3% of CBU's points in a display of how dynamic this underclassman duo can be. San Antonio matched a career-high with three made three-pointers on her way to 19 points on top of five rebounds, five assists, and a pair of steals. Schmidt spread her 23 points almost evenly amongst the first three quarters before closing the door on the game with nine in the fourth. Since the start of conference play, Schmidt has shot 54.1% while averaging 17.5 points per game.

Filipa Barros and Nae Nae Calhoun also played substantial roles in this win. Freshman guard Barros has now started eight-straight games, regularly posting lines like tonight's full compliment of 10 points, six boards, four assists, and a steal. Calhoun added nine points and five assists and took the team lead in steals this season with 37 total after nabbing five more against the Redhawks.

The Redhawks would lead the game for the first two minutes, but never again, as San Antonio scored the team's first seven points and led all scorers at halftime with 14. Seattle would get back within one in the second quarter, but Schmidt and San Antonio would close the half with a 10-4 run to build an early cushion for CBU.
The Lancers would continue to score in bunches in the second half, burying the Redhawks in the opening moments of the fourth with a 13-4 run to reach their most significant lead of the night, going up 21-points on Seattle with five minutes to go.
The Lancers now stand at 8-9 overall and 4-2 in Western Athletic Conference play with Grand Canyon next on the docket. The Lopes will head out to Riverside for their final regular-season tilt on Saturday, January 21, with game time set for 1:00 p.m.
