The Lancers have now surpassed their 2022 win total with 13 and pushed their Western Athletic Conference record to 6-5. CBU completes the season sweep of Southern Utah with 3-1 and 3-0 wins over the Thunderbirds. The win and an Abilene Christian loss tonight vault the Lancers into fourth place in the standings as they approach the season's final quarter.
Head Coach Branden Higa had this to say about his team's performance tonight,
"An offensive performance like we saw tonight is the result of everyone on the court doing their jobs at a high level. We were solid with our first contacts then Maddie and Reese did a great job delivering the ball. Our attackers hit high, hard and smart and we executed well and did the simple things consistently."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Thunderbirds had the Lancers on upset watch early after the Lancers gave up an early five-point lead. The Thunderbirds would tie the set up four different times before CBU executed a 3-1 run to close the set and earn the 1-0 start.
After the close call in the opening set, CBU came out firing in the second set and quickly opened up a four-point advantage to force the Southern Utah timeout. The Lancers continued putting their foot on the gas, extended their lead to as many as eight, and eventually earned the 25-18 result. Michalina Rola and Nicole Mauser ended the set with consecutive kills to give CBU a 2-0 advantage.

The third set brought more of the same, with the Lancers exhibiting complete control of the period. CBU highlighted the set with an 11-3 run that featured a pair of kills by Catherine Krieger and Eliana Posada. Southern Utah could not put together a strong enough comeback attempt and succumbed to the Lancers 25-17.
STATISTICAL NOTABLES:
The Lancers once again got a strong offensive effort from numerous sources and recorded their second-highest hitting percentage of the season as a team at .344. Krieger, Posada, and Rola all hit above .350, with Krieger leading the charge at .474.
The setter combination of Reese Reed and Maddie Brown was lethal, with 34 assists, ten digs, and three aces between them in three sets. As a unit, the Lancers held sizable advantages in the hitting percentage, ace, and block departments.
