RIVERSIDE - The California Baptist University athletics department has added Joe Giansante to its executive staff as Associate AD for External Relations. He will also oversee ticketing for all Lancer athletic events. Giansante joins the Lancer staff with a wealth of knowledge in the world of college athletics earned from years of working at institutions such as Oregon, Syracuse, and as a private consultant in collegiate sports.
Vice President for Athletics Dr. Micah Parker remarked on the addition of Giansante, saying, "We are truly blessed and honored to welcome Joe Giansante to the Lancer Athletics family. His vast knowledge and experience at the highest levels of college athletics and will help us be Purpose Driven Champions."
Giansante began his time in college athletics administration with the Ducks in 2007, where he oversaw the Oregon athletics brand as the Senior Associate AD for External Affairs. He also led the effort that brought back the historic Ducks baseball program, and negotiated multi-million-dollar media rights deals that benefited the entire Oregon athletics department. Giansante came to Oregon in 2000 as the TV play-by-play announcer and host for the Ducks broadcast network after a 10 year career as a sportscaster at various CBS, NBC and ABC affiliate stations.
Giansante moved cross-country for the same position at Syracuse in 2013, where he oversaw communications and external affairs for the Orange. Giansante led Syracuse into record-breaking media deals through local and national media enterprises. He helped grow the SU brand via their new partnership through IMG multi-media outlets and helped redesign SU's digital and web enterprises with Sidearm Sports.
Outside of direct employment in college athletics, Giansante has spent time in private business working for former Oregon Athletics Director Pat Kilkenny in executive management of marketing and sales, media, and communications for several companies. He also owned a private consulting business, reviewing collegiate football and basketball game-day experience and branding initiatives. He also conducted collegiate football, basketball and baseball coaching searches, including the hiring of legendary coach Mike Leach at Washington State.
"One thing I've learned having had very diverse experiences, is that there is nothing like the energy and excitement of a college campus and athletics department," said Giansante. "When I was exposed to the California Baptist campus and mission it only took a few minutes to really feel how special this University is. What Dr. Ellis and Dr. Parker have created here on the move to Division I is nothing short of incredible. It's a true honor to join this amazing group of administrators, coaches and student-athletes, and to serve them with true purpose."
