RIVERSIDE - After the completion of the Fall 2023 athletic season, California Baptist University resides atop the first release of the Western Athletic Conference Commissioner's Cup standings.
CBU registered 54.2 points to lead the fall cup standings thanks to a conference championship in men's cross country and a runner-up finish in the men's soccer regular season (tournament champion), along with bonus points for advancement in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. The Lancers added runner-up showings in women's cross country and regular-season women's soccer standings.
The WAC awards its Commissioner's Cup to the school that performs the best in a countable 14 of the conference's 20 men's and women's sponsored sports from an academic year. Points are awarded by aggregate scoring based on regular season and/or championship finishes, depending on the sport and the number of institutions that sponsor the sport. An institution that does not sponsor a specific sport receives no points.
Only the regular season was counted for soccer, volleyball, and football (WAC members compete in the football-only United Athletic Conference) during the fall of 2023. For the sport of cross country, points were determined using the WAC Championship results based on the per sport scoring system. Affiliates are used as placeholders in the standings or championship results but are not scored in the overall Commissioner's Cup standings. Any team that earned an NCAA AQ from a WAC Championship was also awarded two points and a two-point bonus per round to any team that advanced in NCAA Championship play.
