RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University women's basketball put today's game away early, eventually handing the Wolverines their third loss in four games with a 90-52 final score in the CBU Events Center tonight. The Lancers improve to 14-11 on the year, and 10-4 in Western Athletic Conference play and take a half-game lead over the idle Grand Canyon Lopes for third place in the conference standings.
The visiting Wolverines scored the first bucket of the game to take a 3-0 lead, and CBU never allowed them to sniff the lead after that. The Lancers responded with an 18-0 run, closing the first quarter with a 20-9 advantage. The Lancers shot 50% from the field (31-62) on Thursday and outscored UVU 32-5 on fast breaks. The Lancers shot a season-best 94% (17-18) from the free throw line.
Trinity San Antonio led all scorers with 20 points in just 24 minutes of action in the first three quarters. Chloe Webb and Filipa Barros brought the energy from the bench, each scoring 13 and grabbing five rebounds. Sila Finau was doing the dirty work, grabbing 10 boards while making her presence known on defense with four steals and a blocked shot.
The Lancers are back on the road for their next one, looking to keep the wins coming against New Mexico State when they travel to Las Cruces for a 3:00 p.m. Pacific tip-off.
