EDINBURG – Day two of the Western Athletic Conference Swim and Dive Championships produced two more gold medals, a pair of silvers, and a relay bronze. The Lancers' total medal count is now up to seven after 16 events.
The second night of action was bountiful for the Lancers, earning their first gold medal of the night by way of Remi Fabiani's defense of his 50 free title from a year ago. He had broken his own program record in the prelims with a time of 19.09 and nearly did it again in the finals when he finished in 19.10.

The second gold of the night was also the second gold of the trip for Gael Jimenez, who ran away from the field with a finals score of 394.75. That score also broke another WAC record, as he did yesterday in the 1-meter event, posting the best score in WAC history, breaking a record that had stood for nearly 10 years.

Thursday saw the first medals come from the swim side of the event, chronologically starting with the men's 200 free relay bronze. Fabiani, Robert Moseley, Boris Milev, and Brendan Man came together for a time of 1:19.30 to take third place.
The next medal was earned back on the diving boards when freshman Natalia Bedolla claimed her first WAC podium spot with a second-place finish in the women's 1-meter event by posting a score of 290.05.
The men added a silver next as freshman Mark Kovacsics took on the field in the 500 free, touching in a time of 4:19.55, which also earned him an NCAA B Cut qualifying mark, well under the 4:22.35 standard set before the season. Â
A handful of Lancers came in just outside of the hardware on Thursday night, including fourth-place finishes from the women's 200 free relay team (1:33.11), Jonathan Reiter in the 200 IM (1:46.94), and Evan Honer in the 3-meter diving event (337.80). Lydia Bartlett added a fifth place finish in the 500 free (4:54.57), and a sixth-place finish for Jacob Penman on the 3-meter board (276.20).
Day three starts again at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time on Thursday. Finals will be held beginning at 4:00 p.m. Pacific time.
