CBU got off to a fast start with a 13-1 run in the first quarter, fueled by their distance shooting. The Lancers knocked down five triples in the inaugural quarter to give themselves a 19-8 lead. The collective effort by CBU was on full display with their leading scorer Trinity San Antonio marred in foul trouble; the rest of the team stepped up and assisted on their first nine made baskets. CBU led the Lady Jacks 40-24 at the half, which was SFA's largest halftime deficit of the season.
The second half was an offensive struggle for both teams combining for 3-22 from the perimeter and 26 free throw attempts. Chloe Webb and Filipa Barros brought the game home for CBU with clutch plays on both ends of the floor. Barros knocked down a critical three-pointer in the fourth quarter, stole an SFA pass, and drew the foul with under two minutes to play. Webb converted a reverse layup with 0:54 seconds, putting CBU up eight to hold off the late SFA comeback attempt.
As a team, the Lancers held the Lady Jacks to their worst shooting night of the season at 29%. SFA was eighth in the nation in team FG% at 47.4.
The Lancers bench for the second-straight game was a key to victory, outscoring their opponents 33-21, led by Barros and Webb.
Webb, Barros, and Sila Finau all scored in double figures on the afternoon, led by Webb with 17 points on 75% shooting. Barros was a perfect 3-3 from distance, scored 13 points, and pulled four rebounds down. Finau had ten points, four rebounds, and four assists after a critical quarterfinal performance on Wednesday.
CBU will await the winner of #2 Southern Utah vs. #3 Grand Canyon in the WAC Championships game that will be played at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 11th, in the Orleans Arena.
