
VB Preview: CBU Set to Compete in the St. Thomas Tournament this Weekend

RIVERSIDE--- After a 1-2 performance at the Santa Clara Tournament/San Jose State Invitational, the California Baptist University volleyball team will travel to the Twin Cities to compete in the St. Thomas Tournament.
CBU will play in three matches over the upcoming weekend, with Milwaukee and St. Thomas on Friday and Montana State on Saturday. The three opponents will be brand new for the Lancers for the second straight tournament. In 2023, those opponents have started 3-6, with Montana State beginning their campaign a perfect 3-0.
The Lancers are coming into the matchups after defeating Cal State Northridge 3-1 in the final game of the Santa Clara/San Jose Invitational. In the win, CBU had 66 kills on a .319 attack percentage and won an incredible 64-point set 33-31 over the Matadors to solidify their victory. The Lancers are led in kills by senior outside hitter Michalina Rola, who has 43 of them to pair with 42 digs, which also leads the team. Rola assembled three straight double-double performances over the weekend and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Graduate outside hitter Catherine Krieger and freshman opposite hitter Nicole Mauser round out the top attackers with a combined 56 kills over the tournament. In an 18-kill performance in the win over CSUN, Krieger reached her 1,000th career kill and helped the Lancers put away the Matadors in four sets.

Junior middle blocker Laura Walewska currently leads the team in blocks with ten, while graduate setter Leah Pease is the frontrunner at 73 assists.
