RIVERSIDE --- California Baptist University Athletics is excited to provide an update to the continuation of the athletics master facilities plan as ground broke on the baseball and softball clubhouse over the summer inside the Lancers Outdoor Athletic Complex. The two-story addition has a planned grand opening set for Fall 2024.
"This has been a fun project to be involved with. Our current and future student athletes will be blessed to use these facilities," says Vice President for Athletic Dr. Micah Parker.
The 11,445-square-foot building is strategically located between the James W. Totman and John C. Funk Stadiums, featuring amenities such as new locker rooms, sports medicine space, offices for the coaching staffs, and a conference room. Additionally, gameday concessions will be upgraded to help enhance the fan experience with improved food and beverage options for baseball, softball, and soccer home games. The facility will also feature balconies overlooking both fields, providing a unique perspective with picturesque views.
"With the ever-changing landscape of Division I Athletics, I'm humbled to be a part of a university that is committed to providing the greatest experience possible for our student-athletes," says Head Baseball Coach Gary Adcock. "I cannot wait to share it with our current, future, and past CBU baseball players."
The new clubhouse comes after several upgrades to both Totman and Funk Stadiums, which included the installation of videoboards, new padding on the outfield walls, and facility signage celebrating the past success of the programs. Baseball introduced a new 18' x 32' Daktronics videoboard with fully integrated live in-game stats and pitch speed and a turfed field during the summer of 2023. Softball also received a new 11' x 19' Daktronics videoboard and opened their 2023 season with an award-winning turf stadium installed by Astroturf.
"This new building will be the dynamic hub for the CBU Softball and Baseball programs," remarks Head Softball Coach Mike Smith. "It will be a special place that will enhance the student-athlete experience and help them develop team connections that will last a lifetime."
The clubhouse is expected to be finished by the fall of 2024. For more information on how to help support this project, please click here or contact Robby Mansfield, Director of Development, at rmansfield@calbaptist.edu.
