RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist University volleyball team will host its final contest of the 2024 regular season this Saturday as they welcome in Abilene Christian.
The Lancers are coming off a three-match week in which they posted a 2-1 record, including besting two of the top three teams in the conference in Grand Canyon and Utah Tech. CBU clinched a spot in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament with their win over Utah Tech on Saturday and now will look to jump from its current position in 6th place.
The ACU Wildcats enter the matchup 4-10 in conference play and are tied for the 7th seed with Seattle U. The Wildcats got the better of the Lancers in an earlier match this season in a five-set thriller at Moody Coliseum. In that match, four Lancers recorded double-digit kills, including a 15-kill, 8-dig stat line from Kali Wolf. Amanda Darling posted 21 digs and ten assists for a double-double. CBU had not beaten ACU since 2022 when they did so in four sets at Van Dyne Gym. The Wildcats and Lancers have gone the distance in all three of their last meetings, with ACU coming out on top.
A win for CBU paired with two losses for Southern Utah would bring CBU into the 5th seed, where they would face #4 Utah Valley in the opening round, but any other scenario will keep CBU in the 6th seed and matched up against #3 Utah Tech. The Lancers have had several recent standout performances, including from libero Amanda Darling, who is the most recent WAC Libero of the Week following her 60-dig week in three matches of work. Darling leads the conference in digs per set and is 7th in total digs despite missing nine matches. Nicole Mauser is still the current team leader in kills with 223, and she is followed closely by Kali Wolf, who has 211.
