FORT MEYERS, FLORIDA - California Baptist University women's basketball turned in one of their best shooting performances of the season on Friday afternoon, posting 48.8% and 36.8% from the field and beyond, respectively, but ultimately fell to the host Eagles 66-56.
The field goal percentage was a season-high for the Lancers, while the three-point clip was second-best this year. Unfortunately, a combination of foul trouble and 20 turnovers ultimately did in the West Coast side.
Emma Johansson matched her career-high scoring mark with 14 against the Eagles on an impressive 6-9 shooting. Anaiyah Tu'ua was the only other Lancer in double digits with a dozen on 4-5 shooting.
CBU led after the first quarter, 15-14, which marked the first time the Lancers' had led this season at the end of a period. However, a second quarter that saw the Lancers commit more turnovers (10) than field goal attempts (seven) was the difference in the game, as CBU went on to be outscored 20-5 in that frame. The Lancers won the second half, 36-32, but there was already too much ground to be made up in 20 minutes.
CBU will face a Penn team tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time, who defeated Chattanooga 74-61 earlier today in Fort Meyers. Saturday's game will not be live-streamed anywhere, but live stats will be available through this link.
