LYNCHBURG, VA - California Baptist women's basketball took on one of the top mid-major programs in the country tonight, traveling all the way to Lynchburg, Virginia, to tussle with the Flames of Liberty University. A dominant performance from the home team led to a 72-44 loss for the Lancers, who fall to 0-2 on the young season.
The Flames, picked to finish second in the Conference USA preseason poll, used consistent shooting and smothering defense to force CBU into 19 turnovers, which directly turned into 22 Flame points. LU held CBU to just 17-59 (28.8%) from the field and an uncharacteristic 5-29 (17.2%) from distance over 40 minutes.
The Lancers forced the Flames into 17 turnovers, but Liberty's prowess on the offensive glass by grabbing 16 kept them comfortably in control of the contest. Senior guard Nhug Bosch Duran posted a team-high 13 points in three quarters of work.
CBU returns to Riverside for its next contest, opening home action at the Fowler Events Center against Pepperdine on Saturday, November 16, at 11:00 a.m.
